Fruit Gal. 5:22, 23. 22: But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23: Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. Gifts 1 Cor. 12:8, 9, 10 8: For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; 9: To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; 10: To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:
A perfect balance Gifts = work, labor, business Fruit = Rest, peace, life-giving forces of nature
Gifts are a by product of fruit......... In the middle of all the Gifts, rests love... the most important fruit of all The 14th chptr begins with : 1: Follow after charity, and desire spiritual gifts The 12th chptr ends with : 31: But covet earnestly the best gifts: and yet shew I unto you a more excellent way.
There are nine of each.................
Fruit is the result of life, 1st the bud, then the blossom, finally the ripeness of harvest. Underlying all is the tree that bears it, including the life given to the tree itself Fruit is impossible where there is death.
The fruit of the Spirit is the direct result of the life of Christ ministered to the believer by the Spirit. The fruits of righteousness Phil.: 1: 11: Being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God.
Spiritual fruit is the outcome of life that is in full communion with Christ. John 15: 4: Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me. 5: I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.
Loss of communion is the reason for our failures Perfect communion with Christ produces fruit in the believer without effort on his\her part. Other see it b4 we do..... You cannot receive the fruit with out this communion. No one can impart it to you, it will not magically appear. Baptism of the Spirit will not produce the Fruit. The baptism is for service and witnessing purposes. Acts 1:8 8: But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
At the same time a genuine fullness of the baptism of the Spirit increases our closeness with Christ which also will cause us to be in direct communion with him, therefore producing the Fruit as well.
This puts us in a place of Holiness However, Holiness by Faith came B4 Holiness by obedience.
A babe in Christ may appear to many with an obvious immaturity of the Fruit of the Spirit displaying Christian Character, due to the Baptism of the Spirit. This is plain in many new converts.
The Gifts may be used by those who are baptised with the Spirit even though love is not prevalent in their lives or walk. 1 Cor 13:1: Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. 2: And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing. 3: And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.
Where the fruit of the Spirit , ( in this case, LOVE), does not exist, the gifts become worthless.
Hence those who opperate in the Gifts have the greatest need to show forth the Fruit as well. This keeping in line with the Apostles doctrine. Acts 2:42: And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers. 43: And fear came upon every soul: and many wonders and signs were done by the apostles.
We are living epistles.............we are known and read of all men..........therefore an inconsistant life is the worst possible accompaniment to a great display of the Gifts.
All of this being said..... leads to the conclusion that there is great Power in the Fruit of the Spirit. It is the quiet influence of a beautiful life filled with the vibrant direct communion with our Lord.
It doesn't mean that there will never be times when we need to be forceful in our duties. Phillip found this truth. Acts 8:5: Then Philip went down to the city of Samaria, and preached Christ unto them. 6: And the people with one accord gave heed unto those things which Philip spake, hearing and seeing the miracles which he did. 7: For unclean spirits, crying with loud voice, came out of many that were possessed with them: and many taken with palsies, and that were lame, were healed. 8: And there was great joy in that city.
Paul also proved it in his missionary Journeys Acts 13:9: Then Saul, (who also is called Paul,) filled with the Holy Ghost, set his eyes on him, 10: And said, O full of all subtilty and all mischief, thou child of the devil, thou enemy of all righteousness, wilt thou not cease to pervert the right ways of the Lord? 11: And now, behold, the hand of the Lord is upon thee, and thou shalt be blind, not seeing the sun for a season. And immediately there fell on him a mist and a darkness; and he went about seeking some to lead him by the hand. 12: Then the deputy, when he saw what was done, believed, being astonished at the doctrine of the Lord. Acts 14:3: Long time therefore abode they speaking boldly in the Lord, which gave testimony unto the word of his grace, and granted signs and wonders to be done by their hands.
Maximum manifestation of Spiritual power is acheived only when Fruit and gifts go together. The New Testament is careful to record great men of power but also great men of grace and goodness. Acts 6:3 11:24 16:3 22:12. I am sure many other places as well.
